When I spoke about international students being trapped in a form of “modern slavery”, I expected discomfort and backlash. Phrases like “they chose to come here” or “they should be grateful” are familiar responses. But if the term makes us uncomfortable, it’s worth asking why the Australian Government itself has used language that points to systemic exploitation.
I recently had the privilege of delivering a guest lecture on the importance of diversity and inclusion in building globally oriented teams, invited by my good friend Maggie Yin Jiang, a professor of communications at the University of Western Australia. It was a truly enriching experience to return to the classroom and engage with an enthusiastic bunch of university students.

I had the wonderful opportunity to present at the Rotary Means Business event on October 1, 2024, and I focused on a topic that has been close to my heart—understanding the difference between what we achieve (our resume) and the legacy we leave behind (our eulogy).
